2018 is here and we all have a lot to look forward to this year! Most of the new things to mention will be happening toward the first half of the year, so read on if you have a trip planned between now and Summer!
Lunar New Year Celebration at California Adventure
The Lunar New Year Celebration will kick off on January 26 and go through February 18! This is a really fun way to celebrate the new year!
The celebration is located in the area by the Little Mermaid attraction all the way down to Paradise Garden Grill and includes a special World of Color “Hurry Home” show every evening on Paradise Bay, marketplace booths offering Asian cuisine (check out the menu items here), meet and greets with Mickey and friends, meet and greets with Mulan and Mushu and Mulan’s New Year Procession (happens a few times daily in the area in front of Goofy’s Sky School and Paradise Garden Grill).
Food and Wine Festival at California Adventure
Starting March 2 all the way through April 12, 2018, guests heading to California Adventure will get to enjoy some seriously good eats and beverages as the park celebrates the delectable cuisine of California! There will be 13 marketplace booths offering various bites and beverages, LIVE demonstrations with celebrity chefs (more information here), seminars for guests wanting to learn more about cooking (more information here), and a Jr. Chef class with Chef Goofy for kiddos ages 3-11 (free to participate and happens a few times daily – just sign your little ones up in advance in the Hollywood Land backlot)!
Paint the Night Parade Returns April 13
The very popular and beloved Paint the Night Parade will be returning on April 13, but this time, to California Adventure! This is really exciting because California Adventure has one of the longest parade routes out of any of the Disney Parks, which hopefully means more room for guests to sit down and enjoy the parade without waiting hours in advance for a spot (we will see how this all pans out come April – ha!). Paint the Night is truly something special and we highly recommend making time to see if if you’re heading to California Adventure after April 13! Pictured above is the new Incredibles float that will be joining the Paint the Night Parade in June!
Pixar Fest starts April 13
A brand new, limited-time celebration of all things Pixar will begin on April 13 at Disneyland and California Adventure! Pixar Fest will include the return of the Pixar Play Parade, but this time to Disneyland (this parade has always been at California Adventure), a new fireworks spectacular at Disneyland called “Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular” featuring Buzz Lightyear as he flies over the castle, just like Tinker Bell does (so excited for this!). Pixar Fest will host a mini film festival at the Sunset Showcase Theater in Hollywood Land at California Adventure, where guests will get to enjoy some of Pixar’s best digital shorts throughout the day! Paradise Gardens in California Adventure will also be home to some new Pixar character meet and greets as well as activities for the little ones.
Pixar Pier opening June 23, 2018
Paradise Pier is currently undergoing construction/changes to transform into Pixar Pier, opening this Summer! The official opening date (announced February 11 after the D23 Expo in Japan) will be June 23, 2018!
Pixar Pier will represent four themed neighborhoods from favorite Pixar films! The first neighborhood will be created after “The Incredibles!” The Incredibles neighborhood will be over by California Screamin’, which will will transform into the “Incredicoaster” (the attraction will close January 8, 2018)!
The second neighborhood of Pixar Pier will be where Toy Story Midway Mania is located. Any guesses as to what the theme of this neighborhood might be? That’s right! TOY STORY!
The third neighborhood, created after “Inside Out,” will be located on the west side of the pier and feature a BRAND NEW attraction! So fun!
The final and fourth neighborhood of Pixar Pier (located by Mickey’s Fun Wheel) will be a combination of a few beloved Pixar stories. Mickey’s Fun Wheel will still have the famous Mickey face on the front (we are SO happy they’re keeping Mickey!), but the rest of the ferris wheel will have a new look – all of the gondolas will have a Pixar character design instead of the current Mickey and friends. Mickey’s Fun Wheel will close January 8, 2018.
CLOSURES – As of January 8, California Screamin’ and Mickey’s Fun Wheel are closed to start transforming into Pixar-themed attractions.
Ariel’s Grotto and Cove Bar are closed to change into a lounge and grill. All of the shops along the boardwalk on Paradise Pier are closed, but Toy Story Midway Mania and King Triton’s Carousel remain open. King Triton’s Carousel will be closing on March 2 to undergo a theme change (will be a Toy Story-themed carousel). Toy Story Midway Mania will STAY OPEN during construction since it is already in the Toy Story neighborhood of Pixar Pier.
The Games of the Boardwalk are currently closed and undergoing theme changes.
Attractions including Silly Symphony Swings, Jumpin’ Jellyfish, the Golden Zephyr, Goofy’s Sky School, and the Little Mermaid Ride will all REMAIN THE SAME, but be in an area of California Adventure now called “Paradise Park.”
And there you have it! Lots to look forward to toward the first half of the year! We will share more events and happenings at the parks as information becomes available throughout the year.
A few things that we don’t have official dates for yet, but we know will be happening as part of the yearly fun at the parks are Halloween at Disneyland toward the beginning of September through October 31 (tickets for Mickey’s Halloween Party typically go on sale at the end of July) and then the Holiday Celebration starting early November all the way through early January.
